Gloucester Fire Department Responds to Fire in Vacant Home

GLOUCESTER —  Chief Eric Smith reports that the Gloucester Fire Department responded to a fire in a vacant home Sunday night. 

GLOUCESTER —  Chief Eric Smith reports that the Gloucester Fire Department responded to a fire in a vacant home Sunday night. 

On Sunday, July 17, at approximately 9:50 p.m., Gloucester Fire was dispatched to 12 Massasoit Road for a report of a fire in a vacant home. 

Heavy fire was showing upon firefighters’ arrival and a second alarm response was requested for additional manpower.

The Manchester-by-the-Sea, Essex and Beverly fire departments responded to assist at the scene. Danvers, Wenham and Hamilton fire departments provided station coverage. 

The fire was knocked down by approximately 10:10 p.m. One firefighter was transported to Addison Gilbert Hospital for a shoulder injury. The structure is a total loss. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Gloucester Fire Department, Gloucester Police Department and the State Police Fire & Explosion Investigation Unit assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s office.
