Norton Fire Department Responds to Worksite Following Report of Serious Injuries

NORTON — Chief Shawn Simmons reports that the Norton Fire Department responded to a worksite in town earlier today for a report of serious injuries on site. 

NORTON — Chief Shawn Simmons reports that the Norton Fire Department responded to a worksite in town earlier today for a report of serious injuries on site. 

On Friday, July 15 at approximately 10:05 a.m., the Norton Fire Department was dispatched to 142 East Main St., site of Old Station Outdoor & Landscaping Supply, for a report of two individuals suffering from traumatic injuries. The injuries were sustained by a package of granite slabs falling onto them at the site.  

The patients, a 39-year-old man and a 54-year-old man, were transported to Rhode Island Hospital for chest, abdomen and leg injuries that are serious but not believed to be life-threatening.

Norton Fire was assisted on scene by the Norton Police Department. The incident is under investigation by Norton Police and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
