Town of Dighton Passes Warrant Article for New North Dighton Playground

DIGHTON —Town Administrator Michael Mullen and Dighton Parks and Recreation Commission Chairman Kevin Smith are pleased to announce that the Town has passed a warrant article for the new North Dighton Playground.

The proposed article was voted on at Dighton’s annual Town Meeting, held on June 6. The Town voted unanimously on the article, which will allow the Parks and Recreation Commission to build a new playground that will be constructed on the North Dighton baseball field located on the corners of School and Prospect streets.

The new playground will be the first ADA-accessible and inclusive playground in town featuring accessible surfacing and inclusive play features for all to enjoy.

The funding for this project was made possible by the use of Community Preservation funds, generous contributions by the Town Highway Department, and through the Parks and Recreation operating budget.

The Parks and Recreation Commission has also addressed the overall condition of the facility and will be upgrading a variety of aspects around the field, including replacing ball park fencing, installing new dugouts and benches, and exploring energy efficient lighting options.

The project is expected to break ground in late July or early August.

“We would like to thank all the members of the community and various town departments for the overwhelming support we have received in moving this project forward,” Chairman Smith. “We look forward to unveiling the completed project late this summer for everyone to enjoy.”
