EAST BRIDGEWATER — Council on Aging Director Nancy Hill welcomes those living with memory loss and their care partners or family members to the East Bridgewater Memory Lane Café.
Individuals living with dementia and their care partners often become socially isolated. While medical and social service providers offer critical assistance with health and resource needs, they can’t restore access to the simple joy of visiting with friends and neighbors.
The East Bridgewater Memory Lane Café offers a cup of coffee, and a connection. It is designed so that people with memory loss will feel safe, supported and successful. For care partners, it is a much-needed break during the day.
The café is a welcoming place for anyone living with memory loss and their care partners or family members. It offers a comfortable, casual, social outing where people can meet new friends over light refreshments, entertainment, games and trivia.
The café is held on the fourth Monday of the month from 1-3 p.m. at the East Bridgewater Senior/Community Center, at 355 Plymouth St. It is open to residents of any community.
Walk-ins are welcome, but an RSVP is appreciated and can be made by calling the Council on Aging at 508-378-1610. A care partner must accompany anyone who requires supervision or assistance.
Dr. Bere Miesen started the first memory café in Holland in 1997, and since then they have spread as a social movement throughout many countries. Cafes meet in many types of locations, such as libraries, community centers, restaurants and houses of worship. Each café is unique since it fits the interests, needs, language and culture of their local community.
“We look forward to serving the needs of anyone living with memory loss and their care partners or family members,” Director Hill said. “Our Memory Lane Café is a safe and welcoming place, and we are looking to get the word out about this valuable community resource to anyone who may never have heard of it or the East Bridgewater Senior Center. There are so many special events and offerings at the center, and the café is a perfect example of the community atmosphere that we strive to offer to anyone who joins us.”
