TAUNTON — Chief Edward J. Walsh reports that the Taunton Police Department is actively working to locate a female resident who has been missing since yesterday evening.

Taunton Police are attempting to locate Maria Goncalves Pereira, age 53, who left her Beacon Street residence at approximately 5 p.m. Friday, March 25. Pereira suffers from cognitive impairments which police believe impede her ability to find her way home. She was reported missing at approximately 7 p.m. yesterday.

Southeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (SEMLEC) Search and Rescue is supporting the effort to locate her. Residents should expect an increased police presence in the area to support the search effort.

Anyone who believes they may have seen Pereira is asked to call Taunton Police at 508-823-5000.
