WOBURN – Superintendent Matthew Crowley is pleased to share that Woburn Public Schools was recently awarded a grant to support students’ social-emotional learning (SEL), behavioral and mental health, and wellness.

Woburn Public Schools received a $65,000 FY22 Supporting Students’ Social Emotional Learning, Behavioral & Mental Health, and Wellness through Multi-Tiered Systems of Support grant from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).

“We are honored to have received such a highly sought-after grant, which will help us to expand upon the level of support that we offer to students,” Superintendent Crowley said. “We understand that student mental health and well-being are directly linked to academic performance, and we are committed to finding ways to provide our students with the best possible resources for overall success.”

The purpose of this competitive grant program is to adapt, expand or strengthen multi-tiered systems of support to respond to the social-emotional and behavioral health needs of students, families and educators, and to build strong partnerships with community-based mental health agencies and/or providers.

Grant funding will be used to hire school adjustment clinicians and a program coordinator, who will support students at after-school programs offered at the James L. McKewon Boys and Girls Club and the North Suburban YMCA.

The clinicians will provide greater access and support to students through one-on-one counseling, small group counseling and SEL instruction. The clinicians also will train community partners on practices designed to support student wellbeing.
