Regional Police Departments Seek Qualified Candidates For Jail Diversion Program Clinician

REGION — The Police Departments of Bridgewater, East Bridgewater, Middleborough, West Bridgewater, Whitman and Bridgewater State University announce that they are seeking qualified candidates for the position of a Jail Diversion program clinician for the region.

REGION — The Police Departments of Bridgewater, East Bridgewater, Middleborough, West Bridgewater, Whitman and Bridgewater State University announce that they are seeking qualified candidates for the position of a Jail Diversion program clinician for the region.

The Jail Diversion Program is funded through a grant from the Department of Mental Health. It is a co-response program in which a trained clinician assists officers on certain calls for service or 911 calls that involve someone with a psychiatric or substance use condition. 

Jail Diversion clinicians are able to perform assessments, make recommendations and referrals to treatment providers and services needed, and can make follow-up phone calls to the calls they cannot respond to as they occur.

Currently the departments utilize one Jail Diversion program clinician, Katrina Lee, who alternates between the communities throughout the week.

Applicants Wanted

The program is growing, and candidates are sought for a second clinician to assist these six departments. 

Qualifications for the position include:

  • Master’s degree in counseling field
  • Licensed as LMHC, LICSW, LADC,
  • One year of emergency services experience required
  • Experience working with criminal justice system preferred
  • Jail diversion experience preferred
  • Extensive knowledge of DSM-V
  • In-depth knowledge of Massachusetts General Laws Chapter and DSM-V applications
  • Knowledge of mental health and substance use disorders
  • Knowledge of Massachusetts levels of care and referral for access to treatment
  • Ability to complete computerized evaluations
  • Ability to work independently at assigned police station
  • Must have a valid Massachusetts driver’s license and use of a vehicle
