PROVIDENCE — The Rhode Island Police Chiefs’ Association announces that it will be introducing its new Executive Board at an event this week that will also serve as a way for RIPCA officials to remind residents of the dangers of impaired driving.

Press Event Will Promote Impaired Driving Awareness Around Super Bowl Sunday

PROVIDENCE — The Rhode Island Police Chiefs’ Association announces that it will be introducing its new Executive Board at an event this week that will also serve as a way for RIPCA officials to remind residents of the dangers of impaired driving.

WHEN

Friday, Feb. 11, beginning at 11 a.m.

WHERE

Wild World of Indoor Sports, Field 5/6, 1610 Davisville Road, North Kingstown, R.I.

WHO

The following will be featured at the event:

  • Chief Sean Corrigan, Narragansett Police, will be introduced as the new President of the RIPCA Executive Board. Chief Corrigan will be offering opening remarks.
  • Rhode Island Governor Daniel McKee
  • Peter Alviti, Jr., Rhode Island Department of Transportation Director
  • Col. James Manni, Rhode Island State Police
  • Chief Arthur Martins (ret.), will be introduced as the new Coordinator of the Impaired Driving Engagement Counsel 
  • Michael Lunney, Rhode Island Interscholastic League Executive Director
  • Sid Wordell, RIPCA Executive Director

Additional members of the RIPCA Executive Board who will be introduced include:

  • Chief Kevin Lynch, Bristol Police – Vice President
  • Col. Michael Winquist, Cranston Police – Secretary
  • Chief Matthew Moynihan, New Shoreham Police – Treasurer
  • Col. Bradford Connor, Warwick Police – Sergeant-at-Arms

WHAT

The timing of the press event leading into Super Bowl Sunday will serve to promote the concept of the teamwork needed to reduce roadway fatalities and the work RIPCA and partner agencies do to enforce the messaging of making good decisions when it comes to driving impaired and distracted.

RIPCA will be reminding the public that law enforcement will be out in full force around Super Bowl Sunday, and that it is never acceptable to drive while impaired. Members of the media and others in attendance will have time to ask questions to the speakers at the end of the event.
