Plainville Police Department Announces Promotion of Detective Chad Cerce

PLAINVILLE — Chief James Floyd is pleased to announce that Plainville Police Officer Chad Cerce has been promoted to the rank of detective.

Detective Cerce will assume his new role on Sunday, Feb. 6.

“I want to congratulate Detective Cerce for completing several required specialized classes to achieve his goal of becoming a detective,” Chief Floyd said.  “Detective Cerce has done an exemplary job serving the Plainville community and I believe that he will be highly successful in this new role. I wish him the best of luck moving forward.”

Detective Cerce joined the Plainville Police Department in 2016 as a full-time officer. He also served as the department’s Field Training Officer, Firearms Licensing Officer and Sexual Assault Investigator. Prior to joining the Plainville Police Department, he worked at the North Attleboro Police Department and Oak Bluffs Police Department.

Prior to undergoing several specialized classes required to become a detective, Detective Cerce had previously received numerous certifications including Sexual Assault Investigator, Field Training Officer, Motorcycle Patrol Officer, COBWEB Bicycle training, TASER operations, First Responder CPR and as a Fingerprint Machine operator.

Following the completion of the specialized classes, he also now has certifications in Detective Basic Training, Photography, Crime Scene Investigations, Crime Scene Operations, Evidence Management, Sexual Assaults, Search Warrant Preparation and the preparation of Search Warrants for Technology.

Detective Cerce attended the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority Police Academy’s Basic Recruit Academy and the South Suburban Police Institute’s (SSPI) Reserve Intermittent Police Academy.  He graduated from Bridgewater State University with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.
