MAYNARD – Town Administrator Greg Johnson shares that the Town of Maynard has installed six electric vehicle charging stations via a grant from the state Department of Environmental Protection.
Two dual-port charging stations have been installed in parking lots at each of three locations: Town Hall, the Maynard Public Library, and Maynard Country Club. The three existing stations at the municipal parking lot at Naylor Court have been taken out of service because the technology is obsolete. The community continues to explore options to upgrade and replace obsolete equipment in the future.
Funding for the new stations comes from a $54,879 grant through DEP’s Massachusetts Electric Vehicle Incentive Program (MassEVIP).
User rates for the new stations are 25 cents per kilowatt/hour for the first two hours, and $1 per kilowatt/hour thereafter. Town Meeting has approved placing revenue from the charging stations into a revolving fund, which will be used to offset power utility and repair costs associated with maintaining and expanding electric-vehicle infrastructure.
Consumers are asked to download the ChargePoint app, which allows users to pay for their charging session and to find other charging stations as they travel.
“Charging stations have been popular in the community, and we are pleased to be able to expand availability as electric vehicles become more common,” Town Administrator Johnson said. “Environmental sustainability is a goal of the Town’s Master Plan. Thank you to the Baker-Polito Administration for recognizing this priority and assisting the Town in reducing its climate footprint.”
