ACTON — On behalf of the Board of Health, Town Manager John Mangiaratti, Nursing Director Heather York, and Health Director Sheryl Ball wish to remind residents of important health and safety guidance regarding COVID-19 and influenza.
As of Monday, Nov. 1, the Town of Acton has 12 active COVID-19 cases, which is down from 22 cases just days ago. There have been 1,202 total cases in town since the start of the pandemic.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says community transmission in Middlesex County remains high as of Nov. 1. Everyone in areas of high transmission, regardless of vaccination status, should wear a mask in public, indoor settings, according to the CDC.
“With the arrival of colder temperatures and with flu season on the horizon, we encourage everyone to take precautions to help us keep up the fight against the spread of COVID-19, and to protect your families against the flu as well,” said Town Manager Mangiaratti. “The more we all work together to combat COVID-19 and flu, the better off our community and loved ones will be.”
The Massachusetts Department of Public Health also provides the following general recommendations regarding health and safety protocols:
- Wear a face covering. All unvaccinated residents, and others at higher risk from COVID-19, are recommended to continue to wear face coverings in indoor settings and when they can’t socially distance. Masks will continue to be required for both vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals at all times in certain locations, including public transportation and medical facilities.
- Additional guidance regarding face coverings can be found on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website here.
- Wash your hands often with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds. Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
- Cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze. Use a tissue or your inner elbow, not your hands.
- Keep your distance. For unvaccinated individuals, and others at higher risk from COVID-19, six feet or more is best.
- Avoid large gatherings. Keep gatherings outdoors, if possible. If indoors, have good airflow by opening a window or door. Limit the amount of time you spend with others, even if you are outdoors.
- Stay away from people who are sick and stay home when you are sick.
Residents are also urged to get vaccinated if they have not already done so. Vaccinations significantly reduce the risk of significant illness due to COVID-19, including the Delta Variant.
With flu season just around the corner as well, residents are also encouraged to get vaccinated against the flu.
