STOW — Chief Michael Sallese announces that a longtime member of the Stow Police Department is retiring this week after over two decades of service as a special police officer.
Special Officer Lee Heron will officially retire on June 30 after serving Stow for the last 21 years. Special Officer Heron began his career with the Stow Police Department in 2000 as an auxiliary police officer. Since 2001, he has worked as a part-time special police officer.
While serving the department, Special Officer Heron spent much of his time aboard the Stow police boat patrolling Lake Boon and keeping lake-goers safe. He also worked road construction details in Stow and surrounding communities.
“Lee knows the lake and the people and they know him. He will be greatly missed by all of us at the department and all those who frequent Lake Boon,” said Chief Sallese. “I would like to thank Lee for his many years of dutiful service to our community and I wish him a happy retirement.”
Additionally, Special Officer Heron served on the town’s Zoning Board of Appeals from 1999 to 2018 and on the Lake Boon Commission from 2003 to 2015.
