CANTON — John Guilfoil Public Relations LLC (JGPR) is proud to announce that one of its employees has been honored as one of the top women in the Public Relations industry.
Leah Comins, who serves as an Account Executive for JGPR’s Southern New England Division based in Canton, was one of 25 PR professionals recognized as a “Rising Star” as part of PR News 2021 Top Women in PR awards. Awards, which were announced today, were also given out in the categories of Changemakers, Entrepreneurs, Industry Innovators and Mentors. Rising Star awards were given to those in the early stages of their careers but who have already demonstrated remarkable work in the industry.
“The entire staff at JGPR has exhibited great dedication and flexibility during the past year, and it is because of employees like Leah that this company has grown into a highly successful and nationally-recognized agency,” said company founder John Guilfoil. “Leah is well-deserving of this honor, and I am excited to see what she will be able to accomplish as she continues to progress in her career.”
Comins joined JGPR full-time in 2019, shortly after earning her bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Political Science from the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities. A native of Wisconsin, she quickly rose through the ranks of the company and was promoted to her current role of Account Executive last June.
Comins has overseen several high-profile crises during her tenure with JGPR, and manages nearly 30 accounts across a variety of agencies (including police departments, fire departments, municipal governments and public school districts). She is also the manager of JGPR’s internship program, overseeing the recruiting, hiring and training of as many as a half dozen interns at any given time.
Additional roles have included organizing JGPR’s public safety editorial calendar and creating JGPR’s first Continuity of Operations plan at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Last year Comins was named a PR News “30 & Under Rising Star” in large part due to her role in helping guide the company through the initial stages of the COVID-19 pandemic. She also shared recognition along with fellow JGPR staff members in earning an Honorable Mention for the 2020 PR News Platinum PR Awards in the category of “Public Relations Team of the Year.”
Comins has also won multiple awards as part of the PR Club of New England’s annual Bell Ringer awards ceremony. In 2020, she earned a Silver Bell award as part of the team that coordinated media availability for a group of Bridgewater police officers after they delivered a baby by the side of the road. As part of this year’s awards, she earned a Silver Bell for her work securing media placement for the North Reading Police and Fire Departments after they responded to an early-morning house fire, and a Silver Bell for her response to a shooting at the South Shore Plaza in Braintree.
