Townsend Police, Fire, EMS Respond After Child Injured by Falling Tree

TOWNSEND — The Townsend Police Department reports that it responded after a tree fell and struck a child this evening.

At about 7:45 p.m., Townsend Police, Fire and EMS responded to 34 New Fitchburg Road for a report of a child injured by a fallen tree. Upon arrival, first responders learned that a 1-year-old boy, while being held by his father, had been struck by the tree. The father was not injured, other than a few scratches on his forearm.

The child was taken by ambulance to a nearby landing area, then flown by medical helicopter to Tufts Medical Center in Boston with serious injuries.

According to the National Wind Service, a Wind Advisory remains in effect in the Townsend area through early Saturday morning. Winds may gust to up to 50 mph.
