ROCKLAND — Superintendent Alan Cron and Principal Michelle Scheufele are pleased to announce the success of the first virtual family bingo night hosted by the Jefferson Elementary School recently.
By this time in the school year, Jefferson has typically held at least two family bingo games as well as other family events such as a literacy night, science night and family dances.
This year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the school has had to find creative ways to maintain social events for students, families and staff. As such, Jefferson staff decided to hold its first virtual family bingo night on Thursday, Feb. 11.
The night consisted of two sessions. Each session had at least 18 families with several family members competing using a single device. Each session featured six rounds of bingo, with winners from each round receiving a Jefferson prize pack and all participants getting the chance to choose a book for after vacation. In between each round, families, staff and students participated in a dance break, with creative and unique dance moves shown by many.
“Seeing these students have a great time with their families and the staff made this virtual event highly successful,” Principal Scheufele said. “Having the opportunity to adapt to new challenges during this difficult time has given our school the chance to come up with creative ways to keep students involved, and we look forward to a time when we can resume holding these types of events in person.”
Principal Scheufele and staff members Elizabeth Duggan, Kathleen Jenkins, Taryn Muolo and Kathy Sullivan helped organize and run the event.
