Town of Marion Shares Information on COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution in Town

To date, Town Has Distributed Nearly 900 Doses of Vaccine to First Responders, Health Care Workers and Seniors

MARION — Town Administrator James McGrail, Public Health Nurse Lori Desmarais and the Marion Board of Health would like to provide important information to residents regarding COVID-19 vaccine distribution in the Town of Marion.

As of Friday, Feb. 12, the Town of Marion has administered 886 doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine to first responders, health care workers and seniors aged 75 and above as part of Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the state’s vaccine distribution plan. This includes vaccinating 100% of the population over the age of 85 who requested the vaccine.

While the Town is prepared to continue to staff local vaccination clinics, its ability to do so is completely dependent on receiving vaccine doses from the State Department of Public Health.  

At this time, no additional vaccine doses have been made available to the Town of Marion from DPH.

“We have been aggressively pursuing vaccine orders but unfortunately our most recent request to the state for vaccine doses was denied,” Town Administrator McGrail said. “We understand the extraordinary demand for the vaccine across the state, and will continue to do everything we can to acquire more doses so we can continue vaccinating residents at the local level. For such a small town we are extremely proud of the work we have done thus far to vaccinate our first responders, public health workers and most senior population and will continue to do what we can to vaccinate as many of our residents as possible.”

The Town has applied for a shipment of vaccines as part of next week’s distribution from the state. The Town is also working with State Representative Bill Straus to acquire additional vaccine doses.

The Town of Marion is encouraging those residents who are currently eligible to receive the vaccine to make an appointment at a number of vaccination sites around the region.
