Three Students Qualify for State Competition in March

WESTPORT — Interim Superintendent Thomas F. Aubin is pleased to announce that several students in the Westport High School DECA program competed in the 2021 district competition this month.

DECA is a high school business and marketing organization that prepares young leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management.

Four Westport High School DECA students competed in the district competition — which was held virtually this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic — against more than 400 students from local area high schools.

Three of the students qualified for the upcoming DECA state competition, which will be held from March 1-18. They achieved this by finishing in the top seven in their chosen category.

Students who advanced to the state competition include:

  • Isabella Glennon – Second place in Food Marketing Series
  • Ava Matos and Siena Moniz – Fifth place in Marketing Management Team Decision Making

“I would like to congratulate all of the Westport High DECA students for their hard work and dedication this year under these extraordinary circumstances,” Interim Superintendent Aubin said. “We wish those who are advancing to the state competition the best of luck, and look forward to cheering them on in March.”
