Town of Marion to Receive 100 COVID-19 Vaccinations to Begin Phase 2 Vaccinations of Residents 75-Years Old and Older

Residents Will Be Prioritized Oldest to Youngest for Vaccination

MARION — Town Administrator James McGrail, Public Health Nurse Lori Desmarais and the Marion Board of Health report the Town of Marion has been approved by the state to receive 100 doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccination for those eligible through phase two of the state’s vaccination distribution plan.

The doses have been specifically allotted only for those 75-years-old and older, who become eligible on Monday, Feb. 1 through phase two of the state’s vaccination distribution plan. 

The Town of Marion will hold a clinic for Marion residents age 85-years-old and older only on Friday, Feb. 5 to distribute the vaccine. As a result of the limited number of vaccinations available, the Town of Marion is prioritizing residents by age, and will be working down a list provided by the state based off of census data of residents from oldest to youngest in the 85-years-old and older category. The Town of Marion will be contacting residents from oldest to youngest based on that list to make appointments for Friday’s clinic until the current 100 dose supply of vaccines has been accounted for.

Residents 85-years-old and older who want to make sure they are on the list can contact the Town of Marion through a newly established hotline at 508-748-3509 to leave a message with their contact information. 

The Town of Marion is seeking additional vaccination allotments and will notify the community promptly if more vaccines are provided by the state for future weekly clinics. 

“We know many residents who become eligible on Monday have had a hard time obtaining an appointment, and we are so thankful to have been given these vaccines to provide to our residents,” Town Administrator McGrail said. “However, this is a very limited number of doses and so we’re prioritizing residents by age at this time. I’d also like to thank our Board of Health for their hard work in making this clinic possible.”

• If you’re eligible, visit mass.gov/COVIDVaccineMap to find a vaccine clinic near you
• Make an appointment online and fill out the attestation form

Residents who need further assistance making an appointment can also call the Town of Marion at 508-748-3509 for support. 

Residents should note that while the state is creating more mass vaccination sites and though they may become eligible to receive the vaccination in the coming weeks, vaccination distribution is contingent on the number of physical vaccinations available. The State of Massachusetts, at this time, is prepared to distribute more vaccinations than it has. 

The state has not yet announced when individuals 65-years-old and older and those with two or more comorbidities will be able to receive the vaccine. This will be announced when more information is available about additional doses of the vaccine to be provided to the state by the federal government.
