EAST BRIDGEWATER — The East Bridgewater Board of Health and the Board of Selectmen are pleased to report that Fire Chief Timothy Harhen has been appointed to the open seat on the East Bridgewater Board of Health that recently became available following the passing of longtime member William Hubert.

The appointment was made during a joint meeting of the Board of Health and the Board of Selectmen held Tuesday, Jan. 26. The boards unanimously voted to appoint Chief Harhen to the seat, which he will hold until the seat’s term expires this spring.

During their discussions Tuesday, the boards noted the urgency of filling the vacancy with someone who is familiar with the challenges caused by the pandemic, as well as someone who is passionate in their duties protecting and serving the town and its residents.

“It is important that we do not miss a beat in our planning for the vaccine rollout and urgently addressing our needs as a community,” said Board of Selectmen Chair Carole Julius.

Chief Harhen has been on the frontlines of the Town’s COVID-19 response and has been instrumental in the planning and executing of the recent testing sites in East Bridgewater held on Jan. 9 and 10. In addition to his role as Fire Chief, he also serves as Emergency Management Director for the Town.

“I am honored that the Town has placed its faith and confidence in me to fill this seat, and I will do everything I can not only to serve the residents of East Bridgewater in this role but also work to honor the legacy of longtime Board of Health member William Hubert,” Chief Harhen said.

Chief Harhen will fill the seat until the annual town election, which is scheduled to be held on Saturday, April 10.
