IPSWICH — The Ipswich Select Board and the School Committee along with Town Manager Anthony Marino and School Superintendent Dr. Brian Blake, wish to provide the following joint statement:
“We have full confidence in our electoral system, we embrace the results of our free and fair elections, and we reject any attempt to prevent the peaceful transition of power that is the cornerstone of our democracy.
“Yesterday’s seditious violence at the Capitol was a direct affront to our democratic norms. That it was carried out with what appears to be the tacit approval of the president makes it all the more despicable.
“What we witnessed unfolding in Washington is a moment that will be addressed in classrooms for generations to come, but it is also something that demands our immediate and full attention. We encourage teachers and parents to discuss these events with their students and children and make it clear that there is no room for this kind of behavior in our society.
“American democracy is bigger than any one candidate or political party, and we must speak up to defend it when criminals like those who attacked the Capitol yesterday seek to do it harm.”
