WEST NEWBURY — The following is a statement from Superintendent Justin Bartholomew regarding the School Committee’s vote tonight to transition Cohorts A and B of the Bagnall Elementary School to fully remote learning:
“Tonight, the Pentucket Regional School District School Committee has voted for Cohorts A and B of the Bagnall Elementary School to transition to fully remote learning beginning on Thursday, Jan. 7 and will return to the hybrid learning model on Jan. 20.
“Cohort C, which includes all Pre-K students and students who are enrolled in district special education programs, will continue with hybrid learning throughout this time in order for the district to accommodate the needs of those students.
“Please note that on Monday, Jan. 18 the district will be closed in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day and also on Tuesday, Jan. 19 for a professional development day.
“This decision has been made out of an abundance of caution as the Bagnall has seen an uptick in positive cases over the past week. While it should be made clear that there is no indication of any widespread transmission of the virus taking place at any of the district’s schools, the district recognizes the rapid spread of the disease throughout the country at this time and the anticipated increase in positive cases as a result of holiday get-togethers and celebrations in recent weeks.
“We know that this transition to fully remote learning places a significant burden on the families of our students and staff. We are deeply appreciative of your continued cooperation, patience and flexibility over the past several months. Thank you for bearing with us as we have made these difficult decisions while always prioritizing the health and wellbeing of students and staff.
“We remain in constant communication with our local and state public health partners, and will provide updates as more information becomes available.”
