PETERBOROUGH — Superintendent Kimberly Rizzo Saunders and Principal Colleen Roy are pleased to announce the 2020 Pizza Pumpkin Palooza fundraiser raised $120 to benefit students last week, and that fundraising efforts will continue through mid-November.
The event is held to help celebrate and engage students in reading, while also helping to raise money to benefit Greenfield Elementary School students, and was first held last year.
Families were able to purchase raffle tickets for a chance to win one of nine pumpkins created by students. The pumpkin decorations were based on books chosen by the class, such as “Horton Hears a Who” by Dr. Seuss, “Owl at Home” by Arnold Lobel and “A Bad Case of Stripes” by David Shannon.
Students are also participating in a reading challenge, and will be able to earn up to five raffle tickets based reading a book a day over the course of the week.
Additionally, families can buy pizza kits from Little Caesars as part of the fundraiser. To order a kit, which will be available until Nov. 14, click here.
“This is a fun way for students to get excited about reading and a favorite event for everyone this time of year,” Principal Roy said. “Thank you to everyone who purchased raffle tickets or kits to help support our young learners.”
The winners were chosen and announced on Friday, Oct. 30, and the winners were able to bring their pumpkins home with them that day.
“Greenfield students did an amazing job decorating their pumpkins to celebrate reading,” Superintendent Rizzo Saunders said. “Thank you to all who organized this event and helped to make it a success once again.”
All proceeds will benefit the GES Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), who is hosting the program, to be used for books, playground equipment and more for students.
