Westport School Committee Announces Upcoming Resignation of Superintendent Gary Reese

Assistant Superintendent and Junior Senior High School Principal Thomas Aubin Named Interim Superintendent

WESTPORT — The Westport School Committee reports that Superintendent Dr. Gary Reese, who has been on a leave of absence since Sept. 18, 2020, will be resigning effective Nov. 30. 

Acting Superintendent Thomas F. Aubin will serve as the Interim Superintendent going forward. Mr. Aubin has been at the forefront of implementing the district’s COVID-19 re-entry plan since Dr. Reese’s leave of absence.

The Westport School Committee voted unanimously to appoint Aubin Interim Superintendent at its meeting Thursday, Oct. 15.

Aubin joined the district in May and had served as the Superintendent/Director of the Greater Fall River Vocational School District since 2016. He previously served as Vocational Coordinator for GFRVSD for 13 years, as well as a year as the district’s Dean of Students.

The Westport School Committee also voted at their Oct. 15 meeting to appoint Junior Senior High School Assistant Principal Kerri McKinnon as the Interim Assistant Superintendent/Principal.
