Burlington Public Library Invites Residents to Participate in Merrimack Valley Library Con: Undead Edition

BURLINGTON — Library Director Michael Wick is pleased to announce that the Burlington Public Library will be partnering with other local libraries for Merrimack Valley Library Con: Undead Edition.

The month-long event will feature a variety of Halloween-themed virtual programs, including craft kits, candy bingo, guest speakers, digital escape rooms, watch parties and more.

Young Adult Librarian Nicole Monk is helping to coordinate the event, along with staff from the Billerica, Haverhill, Ipswich, North Andover, Tewksbury, and Wilmington public libraries.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with our neighboring peers to host this series of Halloween-themed events for residents of all ages,” Wick said. “We hope you and your family will join us, and thank you to all who organized these creative, interactive activities that families can safely take part in at home.”

Events will continue to be added throughout the month and include:

• DIY Book Page Pumpkin Craft will be held from Oct. 5-6. Families will be able to sign up and receive supplies from the Burlington Public Library to create pumpkins from old book pages to complete at their home. This craft is designed for those who are middle school age to adults. For more information and to sign up, click here.
• Candy Bingo, which will be held on Oct. 9 from 7-9 p.m. This event is limited to students in grades six through 12, and registration is required. To sign up, click here. Bingo cards and candy markers can be picked up at the Burlington Public Library once you are registered.
• Paranormal researcher and storyteller Jeff Belanger will be hosting a virtual Ghosts and Legends program on Oct. 15 from 7-8 p.m. Belander is an award-winning, Emmy-nominated host, writer, and producer of the ‘New England Legends” series on PBS and Amazon Prime, and is the author of over a dozen books on the paranormal, including bestsellers ‘The World’s Most Haunted Places’ and ‘Weird Massachusetts’. Those planning to attend via Zoom must register in advance and can do so here.
• A Digital Escape Room for students in grades six through 12 will be held on Oct. 19 starting at 6:30 p.m. Attendees will be able to click around the digital rooms to find clues and solve puzzles. Registration is required, as space is limited, and can be done here.
• An Evening with Edgar Allen Poe will be held on Oct. 20 from 7-8:15 p.m. Literary historian Rob Velella will portray the author himself and read several of Poe’s works. This event is recommended for those age 13 and older. Registration is required and can be done here.
• A make-your-own cauldron bath bomb class will be held on Oct. 26 from 4-4:30 p.m. and led by Meg Duffy from Fiona’s Fright Shoppe in Bradford. Supplies can be picked up at the Haverhill Public Library ahead of time. The class will be held on Zoom and registration is required. To register, click here.
• An edible haunted house class, which will be held via Zoom on Oct. 26 from 7-8 p.m. This event is for students in grades six through 12 and supplies can be picked up prior to the event at the Burlington Public Library. Registration is required. To do so, click here.
• An Introduction to Tarot Card Reading workshop, which will be held via Zoom on Oct. 29 from 7-8 p.m. Participants will learn the history of the cards and their meanings, and collaborate on sample readings for attendees. The event is free for teenagers and adults, and registration is required. To do so, click here. A meeting invitation will be sent out two hours prior to the event to the email address given at registration.
• A Halloween movie watch party for the film “Hocus Pocus”  will be held on Oct. 31 from 3-5 p.m. For those who have cable, the movie will be shown on Freeform at that time. Trivia and other games will be conducted during the commercial breaks. Registration is required and can be done so here. This event is for students in grades six through 12, and all participants can pick up an interactive goodies bag at the Burlington Public Library on Oct. 30. Those who don’t have cable can still sign up to receive the interactive goodies bag and enjoy it on their own time by renting or borrowing the DVD from your library.
