Town of Acton Residents Vote to Support COVID Small Business Grant Program

ACTON — The Board of Selectmen, Town Manager John Mangiaratti and Director of Land Use and Economic Development Matthew Selby are pleased to announce that residents of the Town of Acton voted in support of a COVID Small Business Grant Program. 

The approximately $165,000 grant program, funded using the town’s free cash, is part of an initiative to assist small businesses in Acton impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The funds will help these businesses cover rent and other fixed costs. Grants of up to $4,000 each will be provided to 43 local businesses.

The program targeted businesses which met the following criteria:

• Less than 35 employees. 
• Less than $1.5 million in annual revenue.
• Have a physical, commercial presence in Acton.
• Demonstrated a loss of 50% or more in revenue since the COVID-19 closures in March.

“This is a true demonstration how deeply our community cares for our small businesses, and is a clear indication of how much we collectively care about their well being,” Board of Selectmen Chair Jon Benson said. “Small businesses are part of the fabric of our community, and many of them give back in so many ways, like cash-in-kind contributions for local activities and events, so we’re proud to step up and support them in their hour of need.”
