ACTON — Town Manager John Mangiaratti is pleased to announce the Town of Acton has been awarded a $99,411 Green Communities Competitive Grant from the state’s Department of Energy Resources (DOER).
The grant funding is part of a statewide initiative to help Massachusetts cities and towns find clean energy solutions that reduce long-term energy costs and strengthen local economies
The funding will be split up among five different projects:
- $64,561 will be used to install LED lighting in the Parker Damon Building.
- $7,775 will be used to install LED lighting in the RJ Grey Junior High School.
- $9,575 will be used to improve the efficiency of the current equipment and systems at four buildings, including the Acton-Boxborough Regional High School.
- $10,000 will go towards the purchase two hybrid cruisers for the Acton Police Department. The total cost of both cruisers is $94,000 and the remaining funding will come from budget appropriations.
- $7,500 will be used to purchase an additional electric vehicle charging station, which will be installed in the rear lot at Town Hall. This funding will cover the cost of the equipment and the town will cover the cost of installation.
Work is expected to begin in the fall.
“As we continue to work to make our town buildings and community more energy efficient, funding like this helps us to complete those projects in a timely manner,” Town Manager Mangiaratti said. “We’re honored to have been chosen to receive this funding and to be able to implement projects consistent with the Environmental Sustainability Policy adopted by the Board of Selectmen in 2018. We look forward to continuing to build upon our clean energy progress.”
