Town of Wenham Receives $133,923 Grant for Green Initiatives

WENHAM — Town Administrator Anthony Ansaldi is pleased to announce the Town of Wenham has been awarded a $133,923 Green Communities Competitive grant from the Department of Energy Resources (DOER).

The grant funding is part of a statewide initiative to help Massachusetts cities and towns find clean energy solutions that reduce long-term energy costs and strengthen local economies.

The funding will be split up among seven different projects:

• $13,872 will be used to install LED lighting in the Hamilton-Wenham Public Library.
• $67,335 will be used to improve the efficiency of the Library’s current equipment and systems.
• $16,152 will be used to install LED lighting in the Iron Rail Building.
• $7,370 will be used to repair the steam trap at the Iron Rail Building.
• $10,035 will be used to install LED lighting in the Boy Scout Barn at the Iron Rail Building.
• $9,159 will be used to install LED lighting in the Council on Aging building.
• $10,000 will be used by the Town for administrative assistance for the management of the grant.

Work on these projects will begin in the fall.

“We are extremely grateful to receive this funding to help make many of the buildings in our community more energy efficient,” Town Administrator Ansaldi said. “We are continuously working to make Wenham more energy efficient and funding like this goes a long way towards helping us complete the projects needed to achieve that goal.”

Wenham, who has received this funding in prior years, was one of 103 communities to receive funding for energy efficient projects this year. More information about the program can be found here.
