WENHAM — Town Administrator Anthony Ansaldi announces the Town of Wenham will be participating in the national Forward into Light campaign honoring the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment.
Starting Tuesday, Aug. 26, at 7:30 p.m., the Town Hall will be lit up in gold and purple, two colors from the suffrage movement, and will remain lit until the primary election on Tuesday, Sept. 1.
The Town of Wenham will be one of hundreds of communities across the nation honoring the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment and women’s constitutional right to vote over the next week for the Forward into Light campaign.
The Town is participating in the campaign in conjunction with the League of Women Voters Hamilton/Wenham (LWVHW).
“We are proud to take part in this celebration and honor a significant milestone in American history,” Town Administrator Ansaldi said. “Thank you to the League of Women Voters Hamilton/Wenham for joining us for this campaign that serves as a great reminder of the importance of the 19th amendment. We hope that you will visit the Town Hall over the next week to see it lit up during the evening.”
“We are here tonight to celebrate the tireless hard work and sacrifices of those activists who have come before us,” said Dacia Rubel, a spokesperson for the LWVHW. “The League will continue to strive to protect and expand voting rights in this country through advocacy and action. This work is even more important during these unprecedented times of uncertainty and fear. With a presidential election in the middle of a pandemic, it is critical that every voter is able to cast a ballot safely and securely.”
