Raymond School District Shares Additional Information About Reopening Plan

RAYMOND — Superintendent Tina McCoy and Director of Behavioral Health Jessica Caron wish to remind families of policies and procedures that will be followed for the start of the 2020-21 academic year.

RAYMOND — Superintendent Tina McCoy and Director of Behavioral Health Jessica Caron wish to remind families of policies and procedures that will be followed for the start of the 2020-21 academic year.

The first day of school for students in grades first-12 will be Tuesday, Sept. 1. Preschool and kindergarten students will begin school on Monday, Sept. 14. Students will be following a hybrid teaching model unless they’ve opted to participate in a fully remote option.

More information about the reopening plan can be found here.

Families are asked to remember and prepare for the following measures that will be in place:

Water Bottles

No water fountains will be available for use as a safety precaution during the school day. Students are encouraged to bring water bottles to school that can be refilled with the bottle refill fountain.

Allergies and Other Medical Conditions

Please communicate any sort of diagnoses for your child to your school’s nurse department as soon as possible so that nurses can have a better understanding of a student’s baseline should  they need to be further assessed while at school. These chronic conditions will need to be assessed and documented by the child’s doctor before school begins so the nurse can have this information on hand. If the nurse does not have this information documented by a provider, children may need to be sent home if they present symptoms.

Self-Screening

Families should practice screening students each day for the following symptoms:

  • Fever or chills
  • New or worsening cough
  • Diarrhea
  • Fatigue
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • New or worsening shortness of breath or difficulty breathing

Students will be screened each day at school for these symptoms. Should they present any of these symptoms or have traveled outside of New England within 14 days, students are asked to stay home from school. Students will need to stay out of school and participate in remote learning for:

  • At least 14 days have passed since the onset of symptoms, with signs that symptoms have improved, and at least 24 hours have passed the resolution of a fever without the use of fever-reducing medications.
  • Fourteen days after returning home from a trip outside of New England.

Students who are tested and receive negative results for COVID-19 will be able to return to school earlier than 14 days.

Mild Illness

Students should stay home from school should any new or unexplained illness, no matter how mild, develop. If student arrives at school with any symptoms of illness, or develop any symptoms during the school day, they will be sent home. This precaution is meant to keep all staff and students safe. Families are asked to contact your student’s school nurse if you have specific questions about the return to school requirements on a case-by-case basis.

  • Iber Holmes Gove Middle School School Nurse Monique Gauthier: 603-895-3394 ext. 4186
  • Raymond High School School Nurse Mark Hastings: 603-895-6616 ext. 2304

Contact Information

Parents must provide emergency contact info for their students should the child need to be picked up from school for any reason. If for some reason you will not be available, please make sure to keep the school informed with alternative names and numbers of people who would be available to pick up your child at school. Parents can provide this full, accurate information by completing the online registration process for both new and returning students. More information can be found here.

Health Forms

Please fill in your child’s health form which is available online on PowerSchool prior to the start of school through the registration process for new and returning students. Please update your emergency contact numbers and work numbers if necessary. More information can be found here.

Masks

All students and employees will be using face masks or face coverings. Families are encouraged to have their students start wearing masks at home to help prepare them for the start of school in September. Mask requirements are as follows:

  • Preschool students will be taught to use face coverings.
  • Students in kindergarten to third grade will be provided with instructions, incentives and expectations to use face coverings.
  • Students in grades four through 12 will be required to use them.

The district’s reopening plan will be flexible in order to adapt to any changes that may need to be made as the situation surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic changes, and the district has plans in place to switch between hybrid or remote learning as may be necessary.
