SUDBURY– Superintendent Brad Crozier and Principal Jeff Mela are pleased to share that faculty and staff came together to create a welcome video for fifth grade students who will be starting at Curtis Middle School this fall, and will be hosting an additional virtual conference night in the near future.
In an effort to provide students with a glimpse into life at their new school, Ephraim Curtis Middle School faculty and staff came together to create a video to welcome the 284 new students. The video was shared with students and their families on Friday, July 3.
Each year, the school typically holds a “Step Up” Day in June for the incoming students to tour the middle school, meet teachers and ask questions to help them prepare for the transition. However, schools statewide have been closed since mid-March and remained closed for the remainder of the school year due to COVID-19.

“We are looking forward to having the incoming sixth graders join the Curtis Middle School community,” said Principal Mela. “Though we weren’t able to host this event in person due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we hope that these resources will help families prepare for the transition and make them feel welcomed.”
Additionally, the school will host a virtual question and answer event on Wednesday, July 15 at 7 p.m. for parents and guardians. A link to attend the event will be emailed directly to families.
“I applaud the great work the team at Curtis Middle School did putting together this video and FAQ for students and their families,” said Superintendent Crozier. “Step Up Day serves as an important way to help students as they transition from elementary to middle school, and I’m proud to see the quick and creative adaptation of the event to ensure students won’t miss out on the experience.”
