SUDBURY — Superintendent Brad Crozier is pleased to share that students in kindergarten through eighth grade recently took part in Sudbury Field Days From Home.
A new approach to a longstanding tradition, necessitated by the social distancing requirements of the COVID-19 pandemic, allowed students to remain engaged with their school community and be physically active while recreating the end-of-year field in a remote setting.
Students had multiple days from June 5-11to complete the challenges.
To facilitate the program, the Wellness Team — consisting of physical education teachers from all five schools — worked together to develop a variety of activities and physical challenges that students could complete from home. Students and families then shared photos and videos of themselves completing the activities, which were gathered into a compilation video and slideshows for their friends and classmates to see.
Traditionally, students from each elementary school take part in Field Day, which parents are invited to attend. This year, students did so from their yards or inside their homes using the activity suggestions provided by the Wellness Team.
Throughout the pandemic-imposed school closure, the team had been providing students and families with activity slideshows full of suggested ways for students and families to stay active while they were home together for an extended period of time.
“It was extremely important to our team that we still keep kids active and connected to their school communities,” said Wellness Curriculum Specialist Betsy Grams. “We received a lot of great feedback from parents who said that the Field Days at Home were a bright spot for their families during a challenging time for all of us.”
