Acton Fire Department Extinguishes Deck Fire on Assabet Crossing

ACTON — Chief Robert Hart reports that the Acton Fire Department extinguished a deck fire early Sunday morning, June 21.

At approximately 12:49 a.m., Acton firefighters responded to a 911 call for a deck fire at 10 Assabet Crossing. Acton Car 30 with shift commander Captain Anita Arnum, Ladder 28, Engine 21, Engine 23, and Rescue 34 responded to the residence. The two-and-a-half-story wood frame home had a rear multi-level deck. The fire was located on the lower level deck where there was a free standing metal fire pit in the center. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading to the rest of the home.

The residents of 10 Assabet Crossing were able to safely make it out of the house prior to firefighters’ arrival and no injuries were reported. The family was not displaced and were able to remain in the home once the fire was extinguished.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Acton Fire Department.

“With the summer weather, people are eager to be outside and enjoy a fire pit, but it’s critical to do it safely. If you’re using a fire pit, it should be placed on a flat surface that is non-combustible, and always keep a fire extinguisher or hose nearby,” said Chief Hart. “Great work on the part of those who responded and helped to prevent the fire from spreading and causing additional property damage or injury.”
