Town of Wenham Announces Public Health Guidelines for Upcoming Town Election

WENHAM — Town Administrator Anthony Ansaldi and Town Clerk Diane Bucco would like to provide residents with important details about the upcoming Town Election and the new procedures that will be implemented to help protect the health of voters and staff.

The annual Town Election will be held on Thursday, June 25 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Buker Elementary School, 1 School St. Voting is being held at the school rather than the Town Hall to allow for more space.

Town Clerk Bucco, with the assistance of officials from the Town’s Board of Health, public safety departments and administration, have established the following measures to ensure the safety of both election officials and the voters on the day of the election:

• Only voters and election officials will be allowed into the polling place. 
• Voters are asked to not come if they are feeling ill in any way.
• Voters are strongly urged to wear a face mask or cloth face covering that covers their nose and mouth while in the polling place. 
• The windows will be opened for additional ventilation in the polling place. 
• All surfaces will be sanitized after each voter has finished voting.
• Signage reminding voters to remain 6 feet away from others will be hung throughout the polling place.
• Hand sanitizer will be available at the entrance and exit of the polls. 
• Voters will be issued a pen with their ballot, which they can take home or leave at the exit to be disinfected and reused.
• Election officials will be issued facial shields and masks. 
• Election officials have been trained by the Wenham Public Health Nurse in COVID-19 prevention measures, such as proper hygiene, sanitation and physical distancing.

Residents are encouraged to vote early by mail. These ballots must be returned on election day before voting closes at 7 p.m.

Residents can click here to download and print an application to vote early by mail, which must be either mailed to Town Clerk Diane Bucco at 138 Main St., Wenham, MA 01984, emailed to dbucco@wenhamma.gov, or left in the drop box outside of Town Hall. All applications must be received by the Town Clerk with enough time to mail out the requested ballot and have it returned by 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 25. Electronic signatures on applications to vote by mail will not be accepted.

Vote by mail ballots must be returned by mail or by dropping off in the drop box outside Town Hall by June 24. Vote by mail ballots can be dropped off during polling hours at the Buker Elementary School by 7 p.m. on election day.
