EXETER — Superintendent David Ryan and Principal Michael Monahan are pleased to share that Exeter High School will hold a socially distanced graduation ceremony this weekend.
“We’re happy to have been able to determine a graduation ceremony plan that allows us to recognize our graduates, together, while being safe and protecting the health of everyone in attendance,” Superintendent Ryan said. “Thank you to our students and their families for your patience and understanding; we know that limiting this event to two guests per graduate is difficult. I’d also like to thank our faculty and staff for all that you’ve done to make this ceremony possible.”

Members of the media will be asked to set up to the left of the stage in an area that will be roped off, and they will be directed to park in the faculty parking lot after their temperatures are taken and they are medically cleared at a designated medical screening station.
WHAT:
Exeter High School will hold a socially distanced graduation ceremony this Saturday, closely following public health guidance amid COVID-19 from local and state health officials.
“The Class of 2020 is a group of exemplary young people, who have worked incredibly hard to get to this moment,” Principal Monahan said. “We’re thrilled to have this opportunity to recognize their achievements and celebrate this milestone in their lives. Congratulations, seniors! We’re so proud of each and every one of you.”
Both the valedictorian and salutatorian will give speeches at the ceremony.
The Class of 2020 Valedictorian is Caden Vitti, of Brentwood. He will be attending the Schreyer Honors College at Penn State University in the fall and plans to double major in energy engineering and Spanish.
The Class of 2020 Salutatorian is Sydney Ward of Newfields. She plans to attend University of California, Los Angeles this fall, where she will major in political science with a pre-law focus.
Students have each been allocated two tickets for a maximum of two guests and must drive to the ceremony in one vehicle they will share with their guests. Students and participants will be asked to follow several steps to protect the health of themselves and others. To watch a video reviewing the steps, click here.
Those in vehicles who do not have tickets and are not graduates will not be allowed to enter.
All participants will have their temperature taken at a medical screening station they will be directed to upon arrival, and will be asked to complete a screening checklist prior to arrival which they will hand to a medical volunteer at the station.
Should any guest or graduate in the vehicle display symptoms of COVID-19 including fever, cough, and/or shortness of breath, medical treatment from their primary care practitioner will be recommended by the medical volunteers and everyone in the vehicle will be directed to leave the campus at that time.
Anyone who feels sick is urged to stay home for the health and well-being of everyone at the event.
Once everyone in the vehicle is screened, the graduate will be dropped off in the stadium parking lot and the driver will be given parking instructions.
All participants, including students, will be required to wear a mask when outside of their motor vehicle, and are encouraged to bring their own. Disposable masks will also be provided to those who need one.
Parking lot attendants will call guests by their parking row to enter the stadium while maintaining a minimum of six feet in distance from the other guests and while wearing their masks. Seats in the stadium will be marked in pairs and be six feet apart from other pairs of guests.
Residents who have Comcast will be able to view the ceremony on the local Education Channel 13. The ceremony will also be shared at exeternh.tv as well as the Exeter High School Youtube Channel BlueHawkMedia.
