BROOKLINE — Town Administrator Mel Kleckner announces that the demolition of the Davis Path Footbridge will be completed by the end of June.
Working in collaboration with the MBTA, the Town of Brookline will complete the demolition of the bridge during the second of two nine-day shutdowns of the MBTA green line’s D branch to conduct planned maintenance. The town expects to identify a contractor to perform the work this week.
The demolition will occur between June 20-28.
The footbridge, which first opened in 1911, was closed to pedestrians on April 11 after the town’s structural engineering consultant, LiRo Group, concluded that the bridge posed a potential hazard. Out of an abundance of caution, the town closed the bridge immediately after being notified of the potential danger to users as well as the MBTA green line tracks below.
Further updates about plans for replacement bridge will be provided as they become available.
