TYNGSBOROUGH — Interim Superintendent Jill Davis is pleased to announce that Greater Lowell Technical High School’s SkillsUSA Chapter has been awarded a Gold Level Chapter of Distinction for the fifth consecutive year.
The state-level award recognizes the efforts of Greater Lowell Tech’s SkillsUSA Chapter to integrate the SkillsUSA Framework into its activities, including the promotion and development of workplace skills, technical skills grounded in academics, and personal skills. As a top performing chapter, Greater Lowell is eligible for recognition as a National Model of Excellence, an award reserved for the top performing chapters in the country.
“The students in our SkillsUSA Chapter have worked incredibly hard year after year and it’s a pleasure to see them recognized for their efforts in this way,” Interim Superintendent Davis said. “This program supports students as they work to cultivate their skills to become well-rounded, confident, skilled employees, and we’re proud of what they have accomplished through their efforts.”
Greater Lowell Tech has presented its SkillsUSA Chapter’s program at the National Conference for the past three years as a National Model of Excellence.
“This award is tangible evidence of our hard work and determination,” said Chapter President Karen Vinal, a Tyngsborough junior in the school’s Computer Aided Drafting program. “I am extremely proud of our officer team for achieving this honor.”
This year’s Gold Level Chapter of Distinction award recognizes Greater Lowell Tech’s SkillsUSA chapter for integrating essential skills including communication, teamwork, self-motivation, adaptability and service orientation into its yearly activities, including the SkillsUSA Community Outreach Challenge, school-wide in-house competitions and Freshman Achievement Program.
“The Chapter Excellence Program really helps our members to see what is important and why we do what we do. It also helps our officers intentionally plan events by focusing on opportunities to develop career essential skills,” SkillsUSA Advisor Sharon Cornellier said.
Each school year, the student officer team of each SkillsUSA chapter is tasked with creating a calendar of activities that emphasize elements of the SkillsUSA framework and provide opportunities for student growth.
