Stoneham Fire Actively Responding to Fuel Spill on I-93 South 

STONEHAM — Chief Matthew Grafton reports that the Stoneham Fire Department is actively responding to a fuel spill from a tractor trailer on I-93 South. 

STONEHAM — Chief Matthew Grafton reports that the Stoneham Fire Department is actively responding to a fuel spill from a tractor trailer on I-93 South. 

At approximately 10 a.m., Stoneham Fire Engines 3 and 5 as well as Ladder 1 responded to a report of a spill on I-93 South, just before exit 35 at the Stoneham-Woburn town line. Upon arrival, first responders found that a tractor trailer’s fuel tank had ruptured after being struck by debris in the roadway, and approximately 125 gallons of diesel fuel is believed to have spilled onto the highway.

First responders are actively working to contain and mitigate the fuel spill.

Two lanes of I-93 South are currently closed in the area of the spill. The Department of Environmental Protection has been notified of the incident, and Massachusetts State Police have also responded to the scene.

No injuries have been reported from the incident.

The Wakefield and Reading Fire Departments have also responded to provide mutual aid at the Stoneham Fire Station.
