Concord Fire Department Receives Donation of 3D-Printed Face Shields

CONCORD — Fire Chief Thomas Judge would like to thank Faceshields for First Responders for donating a dozen 3-D printed face shields to the Concord Fire Department today.

Faceshields for First Responders is a campaign started in April to provide personal protective equipment (PPE) to fire departments in the Metrowest area. Organizer Robert Vinci, an engineer, used a 3D printer to make the customized shields to donate to the department.

First responders will use the face shields to protect themselves from exposure to the novel coronavirus as they respond to calls involving people who may be reporting symptoms in line with COVID-19 or may have been in contact with a positive COVID-19 case. As the virus continues to spread, the department has put in place various procedures and is utilizing PPE to keep personnel healthy so that they can continue to serve the community.

“This is a great donation and an overall really nice thing for someone to do, not just for us, but for other departments throughout the area,” Chief Judge said.”I know from talking to Bob that we are getting the absolute latest version of what’s being recommended for this type of protection. We’ve gotten several donations over the last few weeks and we’ve incredibly grateful for the tremendous support from the community during these unique times.”

The donation will be issued to fire personnel as needed as the COVID-19 situation continues to develop.

Those looking to donate supplies — such as hand sanitizer, masks, goggles, protective gowns and thermometers — to the department are asked to call ahead of time to set up an appointment to drop off the items. The business line for the Concord Fire Department is 978-318-3488.
