MAVA Thanks Commissioner Riley for Recognition of Remote Learning Opportunities and Personal Protective Equipment Donations

MASSACHUSETTS — The following is a statement from Massachusetts Association of Vocational Administrators Executive Director Kevin Farr:

“Last week, Massachusetts Commissioner of Elementary and Secondary Education Jeffrey C. Riley kindly recognized the efforts of vocational schools statewide during a Board of Elementary and Secondary Education meeting. 

The Commissioner acknowledged the varied, rich educational opportunities our vocational schools have put forth through remote learning, as well as the significant donations of personal protective equipment our schools donated to healthcare workers, first responders and others on the front lines of this pandemic.

We wish to thank the Commissioner for his acknowledgement of our vocational schools. As we all navigate this complex, unprecedented situation, knowing that our efforts are recognized by the educational leadership of our state is both an honor and a confirmation that we are setting a positive example for what educators and students are capable of, even amidst a pandemic.

I also wish to thank our vocational school community here in Massachusetts, and recognize the work our administrators, faculty, staff and students have done over the last several weeks. Presented with the uncharted waters of remote learning, you have all stepped up and continued to train our young people to become capable, skilled workers. You have donated equipment that has the potential to save lives from this virus. Let’s keep up this good work, and continue to play the integral role vocational schools have always played in their communities. Be well, all, and stay safe.”
