EAST BRIDGEWATER — Chief Timothy Harhen reports that the East Bridgewater Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire inside a structure on Central Street this afternoon.

At approximately 2:32 p.m. Thursday, May 7, Engine 1, under the command of Capt. Jeffrey Kelley, responded to a 911 call for a fire at 1034 Central St. Upon arrival crews confirmed a fire at a barn on the property. A Chevrolet Suburban SUV inside the structure was also on fire.

Firefighters worked aggressively to knock down the fire and had extinguished the blaze by 2:51 p.m.

The fire is believed to have started as a result of the homeowner doing repair work on the vehicle.

The vehicle is considered a total loss, and the barn received minor smoke damage. The total loss, including damage to both the vehicle and the structure, is approximately $15,000.

No injuries resulted from the fire.

“I commend our firefighters for their quick work in containing and extinguishing this fire to prevent it from spreading to the main house on the property,” Chief Harhen said.
