Town of Norwood Announces COVID-19 Community Testing Program

Residents Must Pre-Register in Order to be Tested

NORWOOD — General Manager Tony Mazzucco, Public Health Director Sigalle Reiss, and Norwood Hospital President Salvatore Perla wish to share with residents that the Town of Norwood, in partnership with the Hospital, is now providing COVID-19 testing for Norwood residents.

The Town has secured 1,000 tests designated for Norwood residents.

Any resident with symptoms or who believes they have been exposed and would like a COVID-19 test should schedule an appointment by calling 781-278-4499 and asking for the Norwood Community Testing program. Pre-registration is required. This is not a walk-in clinic.

“We are very grateful for this partnership with Norwood Hospital to make these tests available to the residents of our community,” General Manager Mazzucco said. “As a result, residents will now have a means of testing that is more widely available and close to home.”

Testing is for individuals who have not previously received a test. Any resident in need of a re-test in order to be able to go back to work should contact their physician.

Testing is offered Monday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., by appointment only, at Norwood Hospital’s testing facility at the rear of the hospital campus, located at 800 Washington St..

Residents should make sure to bring their insurance card if receiving a test. Health insurance will be charged, but there is no out of pocket direct cost for residents.

Proof of residency is required. Residents are asked to bring a photo ID, license, light bill or lease.

The Town will cover the costs for a limited number of uninsured residents. There are no additional fees collected by the hospital for the test.

Results are expected in 48-72 hours after the test is given. The Norwood Health Department will contact residents with their results from the Community Testing Program. For those who test positive, the Department will ask those individuals to isolate at home and will conduct contact tracing to quarantine close contacts.

A COVID-19 test is a snapshot in time; it does not clear you from future infections or release you from a 14-day quarantine. Everyone should still stay home when sick, wear a face covering when unable to maintain social distancing, wash hands and clean frequently touched surfaces.

This program should not replace the following existing testing procedures:

• Working with your primary care doctor to arrange testing if you have symptoms;
• Visiting emergency/urgent care for an evaluation;
• The Foxboro testing site, specifically reserved for first responders and essential grocery store workers only;
• Other facilities that have access to State coordinated testing, such as the National Guard testing program or the Fallon testing program.
