Town of Brookline Urges Voters to Vote Early by Mail

BROOKLINE — In response to the ongoing COVID-19 emergency, the Town of Brookline strongly urges voters to vote early by mail in the upcoming Annual Town Election.

Brookline Town Officials are encouraging voters to vote early by mail for next month’s Annual Town Election in an effort to promote the health and safety of all voters, as well as election workers. Any registered voter may vote early by mail, as long as their ballot is received by the Town Clerk’s office before the close of polls on election day.

Voters should make every effort to return their completed early voting applications and ballots as soon as possible.

How to vote early by mail in Brookline

1. Visit Brooklinema.gov/earlyvoting to download an early voting application to vote by mail. Those who cannot download and print the form may contact the Town Clerk’s Office at 617-730-2010.
2. Complete and sign the printed application as soon as possible.
3. Scan and email the completed and signed application to townclerk@brooklinema.gov OR mail it to the Town Clerk’s Office at PO Box 470860, Brookline, MA 02447 OR fax it to 617-730-2043.
4. Upon receiving completed applications, the Town Clerk’s Office will mail a ballot, a return envelope and instructions to the address provided within 3-5 business days. Voters should note that the same ballots used for absentee balloting are also used for early voting by mail.
5. Complete the ballot as soon as possible and return it to the Town Clerk’s Office by mail to PO Box 470860, Brookline, MA 02447 before 8 p.m. on June 9. 

Brookline’s Annual Town Election is scheduled for Tuesday, June 9. The last day to register to vote for the election is on or before May 29 at 8 p.m. To register to vote, click here. Those who have not already registered to vote should do so as soon as possible to ensure their ability to vote early by mail. 

Anyone who has already applied for an early voting or absentee ballot does not need to submit another form. The Town of Brookline is in the process of sending a postcard to all households with information about early voting by mail.

Voters may still vote in person on June 9. Precincts 3, 7,10 and 15 have been moved. Please see the Town Clerks Web for information.

“The COVID-19 situation is an ever-changing one, but the Town Clerk’s Office has adapted quickly to ensure that everyone can have the ability to vote safely and conveniently,” Town Administrator Mel Kleckner said. “We highly encourage voters to take advantage of the ability to vote early by mail, in order to help prevent the spread of coronavirus.” 

According for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), COVID-19 is believed to spread between people within approximately six feet or less from one another, when a person with the virus coughs, sneezes or talks. It is possible people who are asymptomatic may also be spreading the disease, according to the CDC.
