GLOUCESTER — Mayor Sefatia Romeo Theken is pleased to announce the City of Gloucester has updated its online COVID-19 information page for residents and business owners.
The new COVID-19 information page has been redesigned and will continue to be updated regularly in order to provide residents with the most up-to-date information as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to rapidly evolve. This new page is part of a larger redesign of the City’s website to create a more easy-to-use site.
“During this unprecedented time where information seems to be flowing from so many sources, we’re happy to be able to offer this centralized page for residents to easily access the most recent updates and resources regarding COVID-19,” Mayor Romeo Theken said. “I’d like to thank everyone who worked with us to develop and finalize this resource, and strongly encourage residents to check it often to stay up to date with the city’s response and guidance regarding this pandemic.”
Information shared on the page includes:
- Emergency orders from the Gloucester officials
- Federal, state and local guidance and resources
- Updates on city operations, including closures of city buildings, schools, and links to remote public meetings
- Resources for businesses and non-profit organizations
- Important community info including how to access meals/food
- Communication Resources, such as ity press releases, video interviews with City staff, and infographics.
Additionally, residents are reminded to sign up for Smart 911, the City’s emergency alerts notification system.
Smart911 is a free service that allows residents to sign up online to create a profile that will provide vital information to 911 call takers during an emergency — allowing first responders to make faster and more informed responses. People who live and work in Gloucester can add relevant information to their profile, including the number of people and pets living in a household or working at a business, what those people and pets look like, relevant medical conditions and allergies, and emergency contacts.
The system also allows participants to receive emergency notifications in real time. Emergency alerts are used to notify residents of a variety of situations, including power outages, evacuations, lock down situations, water advisories and road closures.
City officials have and will continue to use the Smart911 system to share information and updates regarding COVID-19 as the situation surrounding the virus continues to evolve.
