WRENTHAM — Superintendent Paul Zinni is pleased to share that King Philip’s National Art Honor Society students were able to showcase their hard work, even in the midst of the statewide school closure and COVID-19 pandemic.
The annual art show is usually held in the spring and students are invited to display the works of which they are most proud. The artwork is displayed to be enjoyed by students and faculty during the school day, and parents and families during an evening reception.
Since the art show was canceled this year due to the virus, National Art Honor Society adviser Shannon Cress put together a virtual art show to share with the community.
Cress reached out to the National Art Honor Society students via the student communication app Remind to ask if they would like to submit work for inclusion in a virtual art show. A total of 11 students sent work to be featured, including drawings, paintings and ceramics. The students also answered a digital survey with information about their work and artistic experiences for Cress to include in the video.
“Our students put a lot of time and effort into their pieces and even if we can’t display them for viewing as usual, I still wanted to find a way to recognize our extremely hard-working student artists and showcase their talent,” Cress said.
The work featured in the video was done in school before the closure, although students are also often able to take work and supplies home to have extra time to work on their pieces.
The finished video was sent to King Philip Regional High School faculty and Principal Lisa Mobley distributed the video to families through the school’s newsletter. Cress also used the Remind app to send the video to the art honor society chapter.
“Many annual activities that showcase our students’ work throughout the year have had to be postponed or canceled due to COVID-19 and it’s great to see staff members like Shannon finding unique ways to still continue some of these events,” Superintendent Zinni said.
Cress hopes to put together another virtual art show video to showcase work from additional art honor society students.
