MIDDLEBOROUGH — Town Manager Robert Nunes and Health Officer Robert Buker wish to provide the community with regular updates about the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic as officials continue to monitor the situation locally and nationally.
As of today, there have been 46 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Town of Middleborough. Of those 46 positive cases, one individual has died and 11 others have recovered and are no longer in isolation.
An 87-year-old resident passed away last week as a result of contracting COVID-19, the illness associated with the novel coronavirus.
“We’re sorry to report that we’ve lost a member of our community as a result of this terrible disease,” Town Manager Nunes said. “On behalf of the entire town, I want to express our deepest condolences to this resident’s family members and loved ones during this difficult time. We ask that everyone continues to be stringent in practicing social distancing and please, only leave your home for absolute essentials.
Fire Department Receives Delivery of Protective Eye Wear
Earlier this morning, Fire Chief Lance Benjamino took delivery of 50 pairs of protective eye wear at the Central Fire Station from members of the Massachusetts National Guard.
The eye wear was donated to the department by the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA).
Firefighters will use the equipment to protect themselves from exposure to the virus as they respond to calls involving people who may be reporting symptoms of COVID-19 or may have been in contact with an infected individual. As the virus continues to spread, the department aims to keep personnel healthy in order to continue to serve the community.

Town officials and local health officials are continuing to closely monitor the situation as it progresses and will regularly notify residents about important information as necessary.
