Meeting to be Held May 4
SWANSEA — Interim Town Administrator James Purcell, Town Moderator Paul Burke and Town Clerk Diane Pelland announce that the Town of Swansea is again postponing the Special Town Meeting until May 4 in response to COVID-19.
The meeting will take place Monday, May 4 at 7 p.m. at the Joseph Case High School, located at 70 School St.
The meeting was originally scheduled to take place on March 23, and had been recessed and continued to April 13.
The decision was made in consultation with the Swansea Board of Selectmen and Board of Health which determined that the ongoing COVID-19 public health emergency may prevent voters from attending the Special Town Meeting.
The decision is also in accordance with Gov. Baker’s orders that advise residents to stay at home and prohibit gatherings of more than 10 people, which remain in effect until May 4. Though municipal legislative bodies are exempt from these orders, the Town of Swansea believes postponing the meeting is in the best interest of public health.
