SWANSEA — Interim Town Administrator James Purcell and Town Treasurer/Tax Collector Elizabeth Leonardo would like to inform residents that, per recently signed state legislation, the Town of Swansea is extending the due date for tax payments in response to COVID-19.
In accordance with the Act to Address Challenges Faced by Municipalities and State Authorities Resulting from COVID-19, signed on Friday, April 3, the Town is exercising the option made available by the legislation to extend the due date of tax payments. The Board of Selectmen voted to approve the extension at their meeting Tuesday, April 7.
The original deadline for tax payments due on May 1, 2020 has been extended to June 1, 2020.
Additionally, the Town of Swansea will waive interest and penalties for the late payment of the First Commitment Excise Tax (due date March 27, 2020), Fourth Quarter Real Estate Tax and Fourth Quarter Personal Property Tax with a due date after March 10, 2020, where payment is made after the respective due dates, but before June 30, 2020.
Though Town offices are currently closed to the public, there are two payment methods available:
- Preferred payment via mail in the envelope provided with your bill
- Online payments can be made on the Town’s Website
Receipts can be provided upon request.
Any questions regarding tax payments should be directed to the Treasurer/Collector’s Office at 508-674-5730.
