EAST BRIDGEWATER — Fire Chief Timothy Harhen reports that the East Bridgewater Fire Department extinguished a house fire on Central Street Monday afternoon.

At approximately 4:30 p.m. today, East Bridgewater Fire received a report of a house fire at 502 Central St.

Upon arrival, firefighters saw heavy smoke coming from a one-and-a-half story single-family home. Three residents had made it safely out of the home and were uninjured.

Mutual aid was called for and firefighters from the West Bridgewater, Bridgewater and Whitman fire departments responded to the scene. Halifax firefighters provided station coverage. The fire was extinguished at approximately 5 p.m.

No injuries were reported in the call.

The initial investigation indicates that the fire started after embers from an outside fire extended to the rear of the house and traveled up into an interior crawl space.

The second floor of the home sustained heavy fire, smoke and water damage and the three residents will be temporarily displaced.
