Holliston Public Schools Offers Lunches for All Students in Town

HOLLISTON — Superintendent Brad Jackson and the Holliston Public Schools would like to announce that grab and go lunches will be available for all students in town, regardless of whether or not they attend district schools while schools remain closed through the end of April.

Beginning Monday, April 6, HPS will transition to providing lunches on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays each week — including Good Friday on April 10. Staff will distribute two lunches per pickup in order to fill in the gaps created by non-distribution days. Food distribution will also take place during the week when April vacation had been scheduled to occur.

Meals can be picked up in cafeteria loop of Miller Elementary School, 235 Woodland St., from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on pickup days. Volunteers from the Holiday Dreams Foundation are available to deliver meals for families who are unable to pick up the meals at the school.

“Our foodservice staff takes tremendous pride in providing quality meals to our students throughout the school year, and that hasn’t changed even though the circumstances have,” Superintendent Jackson said. “We’re pleased to be able to invite any families in our community in need of a meal to reach out and connect with us.”

Holliston Public Schools will be participating in remote learning while the buildings are closed until at least May 4. Gov. Charlie Baker announced the extended statewide closure of schools throughout the Commonwealth last week in order to limit the potential spread of COVID-19.

COVID-19, the illness caused by the novel coronavirus, has moved the World Health Organization (WHO) to declare a global pandemic. President Donald Trump has declared a national emergency and Governor Charlie Baker earlier this month declared a state of emergency in Massachusetts.
