STRAFFORD COUNTY, N.H. — Leaders of the Tri-City Partnership Dover Mayor Robert Carrier, Rochester Mayor Caroline McCarley, and Somersworth Mayor Dana S. Hilliard are requesting widespread federal and state financial assistance to support local businesses and residents affected by the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
Each city council for the three municipalities passed a resolution on the matter that will now be sent to Gov. Chris Sununu’s office.
Residents throughout New Hampshire are being encouraged to not leave their home unless absolutely necessary in order to encourage social distancing and prevent the spread of COVID-19. Restaurants have also been limited to take out and delivery services only until further notice. Gov. Sununu has also advised against gatherings of more than 10 people until further notice.
“This financial support will be vital to keep the doors open to many beloved institutions in the tri-city area,” said Rochester Mayor Caroline McCarley. “This request is simply meant to give us access to resources to help those in need during these unique and difficult times.”
“Access to these resources will help prevent irreversible economic changes to the cities during this unique situation,” said Dover Mayor Robert Carrier. “The Tri-City Partnership is glad to take this step in order to support the health of our local communities.”
“Maintaining economic strength for not just these three communities, but all in the state, is a top priority for many municipal leaders,” said Somersworth Mayor Dana S. Hilliard. “Our hope is to build on many of the actions already being done to allow businesses and residents to continue to do what they love.”
COVID-19, the illness associated with the novel coronavirus, was declared a global pandemic on March 11, 2020 by the World Health Organization (WHO) and has moved Gov. Chris Sununu to declare a state of emergency for New Hampshire and President Donald Trump to declare a national emergency.
As part of the resource-sharing initiative, information will be posted to all three city websites and through their social media avenues as appropriate, so that residents, business owners, visitors and property owners can receive the latest up-to-date information on their phones or computers. The three city managers encourage residents to follow their respective city websites:
